Get a new helmut. There's a reason it's against the law to repair seat belts. Probably the same material in your strap.

next time dont cut anything. take a torch and heat a butter knife (if ol isnt looking) red hot and burn thru it. For those that are challenged put the knife in a vice

The strap might be held in place inside with screws. If so, perhaps the helmet manufacturer can sell you a new strap.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. My helmet is one of the Outlaw helmets that are hard to find. So mad at myself at messing it up after only using it for 2 days.

I did the same thing a few years ago. My new helmet fit awesome. I just cut the strap off my old helmet and used safety pins to put it on. I just say that it adds character. Ha ha. It's been working for a few years now and I just can't part with it.

Oh, you'll part with it as soon as it hits something...

thanks.
Buy a new helmet, it's not fixable. I would not trust a repaired strap in an accident. Any decent helmet will have a snap or magnet to hold the loose strap end from flapping in the wind. If it is a novelty helmet just go strapless, you won't notice a difference if you hit something.

I've yet to find anything to fix it. Totally sucks. Lesson learned.
