Spray bottle with hydrogen peroxide for the bugs, big super soapy bucket of suds and microfiber wash mitt, rinse with Mr Clean auto wash and dry with electric leaf blower. Whatever wax on hand.

I wash my bike (black) at the self-service wash and use only the filtered water cycle. No water spots afterwards.

Don't wash in sunlight. Helps a lot. If I don't want to do a full wash; I use 50:50 hydrogen peroxide and water mix. Spray on, watch bugs fizz up. Wipe off with wet micro fiber cloth. Use a little Pledge or Quick Detailer to finish up.
On trips, I go to the car wash and just be careful where I direct the spray and how close I get. Motels will usually give you old towels to clean the bike with. I usually just blott the water dry and try not to rub much with those towels, or go for a little ride and air dry it.

This is pretty close to the right answer. Use hydrogen peroxide to take the bugs off, just spray it on and let it set for a few minutes and the bugs wipe away. Bugs are mostly protein, peroxide dissolves protein and won't hurt your paint. Then use Pledge, I like the smell of lemon pledge. Works great, and it's fairly cheap. Don't forget to flip the cloth (micro fiber) to the clean side to buff it out.

There is another good product called Bugslide, it works very well, it gives a great shine, but it is expensive, about $1 per ounce. If the bike is already clean and you just want to make it shine, spray a little on the cloth and wipe the bike down, an ounce will go a long way.

Either way you can do this in the sun or the shade, doesn't matter.

Just use a soft, wet cloth. Wipe an area down and follow immediately with a microfiber towel before the area dries, Good for paint, chrome and plastic.
