Default Regulator/Stator/Battery

01 UC died on the way to work this morning. Radio went blank, then lights started to dim, and then engine sputtered. was able to safely park for the day. Put new battery in and cranked right up. Shoulsd I consider changing the voltage regulator and stator? Can these be tested wiht a VOM and how? Found out how not having a service manual sucks. I'll be correcting that soon.

Thanks

get someone to check the charging system sounds like ur stator may have gone bad. a simple volt meter check will tell all.

If you need new, go with a 45 amp system. Cycle Electric sells the whole shabang or stay with HD, but at least upgrade it. As well, if your doing the stator it would be a good time to change all the seals like shifter shaft seal, etc. as you will be pulling the inner primary anyway.

heres the state of charge guide. remove your battery....fully charge it...let it sit over night with no load....and use this guide. below 12.4 and the battery is shot.

on the regulator.....with a fully charge good battery .....once your engine stabilizes from start up....you should get a min of 13.25 volts at the battery terminal. Make sure your RPM's are 950 - 1100.
