Tire wear

The first thing that comes to mind is your riding style, do you do burnouts, jack rabbit starts, useing the brakes for all there worth do you pull a trailer. Second thing comes to mind is tire alignment and tire pressure, over inflated tire will wear in the center more rapidly than if it were properly inflated. Tire mileage will very from tire to tire brand, but no more than your getting out of them i wouldnt say tire brand is the issue.

Actually you are doing very good, the life of a rear tire is proportional to the number of posts on the HDForum. Since yours is one, I would have suspected much lower mileage which is indicative of a troll because their motorcycles have every problem possible, real or imagined. Now, I may be wrong, I have been before, but only time will tell.

Yeah,Avon must make spme pretty lame ****,or this dude can't ride worth a crap. I got 20k out of Dunlop E3's on my Road King. Got 3K on Michelin Commander ll's right now,and can't even tell they've been run at all.

There isn't a good wearing 150/70-18 out there, but you should be getting 5-6K out of the Avon. They like more air pressure than stock, 42-45 psi, everyone thinks that you should lower the pressure if the tire is wearing in the center, NOT! I don't care if you only run 15# it's still going to wear in the center because of the rounded shape of a motorcycle tire. Excessive wear is caused by heat & friction, both are increased by running low air pressure. Run them at or above recommended pressure, & each manufacturer has different recommended pressures. I ran the 150/70-18 for years & the best I could do was about 8K miles, that was with a Metzler, but I don't care for their front tires.

I bet you are running the tire over inflated. Say if the recommendation is one up 36 and 2 up 40, you need to run 36 when you are by yourself and 40 with passenger. Carry a tire gauge and constantly check your pressure. If you run over pressure, centrifugal force which rounds the tire will be more pronounced and will wear the center of the tire more so than the outside very quickly. Other things like high temps (hot roads) will have an effect. Also aggressive driving too. I've heard that Avon's wear faster because they are stickier and have better grip than Dunlops.
