Default Low Fuel Warning Light

I bought a 2004 Electra Glide Classic a month ago. First harley after British and Japanese bikes. Love the bike but there are some minor issues with gages. The strangest one is that the low fuel warning light goes ON when the tank is filled and doesn't shut off until about 2 gal of fuel is used. Anyone ever seen this before? I've read lots on inaccurate low fuel warning lights, but nothing on this issue.
The gas gage is also pretty much useless....says whatever it wants. I trust the trip meter for now.

Any thoughts on how to straighten the low fuel warning light issue out?

Thanks.

I haven't seen that but when my light comes on I need to look for a station. When my light comes on I will put 4.7 gallons in a 5 gallon tank. I have never tested to see my actual tank capacity.

Ha. My fuel light comes on,so I get gas and it takes less than 2 gallons so I work off of the trip meter. I can get 200 miles out of my tank on the highway.

get a saddle bag bottle. They hold 1 gallon of gas and fit snuggly in either side compartment of your bagger.I have one and keep it full of 93 octain fuel. When I fuel up I dump the 1 gallon container in the fuel tank so it doesn't go bad, then top off the tank and refill the 1 gallon container. I will never get caught again, once was enough for me to run out of fuel!

Sounds like something is sticking....try some fuel cleaner.....Sea Foam is very good ....I do half a can per tank full, 2 tankfulls in a row.

Could be the fuel float in the gas tank.

When I bought mine new, the tech that does the walk around with you said don't pay much attetion to the light, watch the guage. My light comes on with about 130 miles on the tank and I can go an easy 60-70 miles further.

Still shouldn't be doing what your describing, don't really know where the switch to make the light come on is but I would guess that was the problem. Would say there is a microswitch in the float assembly somewhere but I don't know.
