I use the HD Oasis cover at work, overnight...works great and is very soft. I've had several different 1/2 covers and I like this one best...
A full cover does cover more, but takes up a lot of room and is more of a PIA to use. Great for long storage outside or bad weather, but for summer sun or rain the Oasis is had to beat.
Just my opinion....

Just received my covers from Cycle Shades (www.cycleshade.com). Come in 2 pieces. One for just the seat area and another covers up the fairing and guages. They are also custom making a pair of covers for my extended bags with speakers in the lids.

You want to protect your bike from the sun, but what about rain? I don't know of rain that hits only the top of the bike.
I have the Dresser Rain Cover from Exigent that I use when the bike sits outside when we stay in hotels. It doesn't take much room once folded in its pouch. I store it in one of the saddlebags and there's a lot of room left. It doesn't take more than 5mn to install it and the bike is completely covered. I took the cover to a shoe repair and he punched 2 holes with grommets for the shorty antennas. Now, they extend thru the cover.

Stay away from any loose fitting covers unless you only plan on using it indoors! A loose fitting cover during a good storm with high winds will just scuff up the paint on the bike, been there, done that. Thats why I went with the Cycle Shade. The whole cover is elasticized and won't rub on the paint. Didn't need to cover the whole bike, just the seat and electronics underneath, as well as the electronics on the inner fairing.
Not worried about rain on the front fender, wheel, and floorboards.
