Default Question about lowering my Ultra with shocks compared to Lowering kit.

I recently decided to remove the tour pack from my 2010 Ultra Classic. I ordered a C&C solo which will be here in a few days. I am currently using the Burly 1 inch lowering kit with the stock air shocks.I like the Burly kit and feel like it is a quality piece for what it is.What I don't like are the stock air shocks.I'm on a budget and pretty much just considering the Progressive 412's. Since I ride solo 100 percent of the time and weigh 171 lbs I was wondering if I would be better off with the standard springs.Another question is with my inseam being 30 inches should I stick with the 12 inch shocks or could I possibly go with the 11 1/2's. I would of course not be using the Burly lowering kit if I went this route. Thanks for your comments.

Might be early in your upgrade, but would be interested in what you finally settle on and how well it works out, as I am considering options. You see a lot of positive posts on high end shocks, but you pay for that quality and comfort. Tough for some of us guys (family guy myself) on a budget.

I have a 2012 ELectra Glide, I removed the tour pack, and put on a detachable sissy bar and luggage rack. I replaced the stock HD 13" shocks with the HD 12" shocks. Bike rode like a stone wagon. After a lot of research I spoke with a customer service tech at Progressive. He suggested The 13" 440's, I had originally planned on getting the 940's. He offered this suggestion after asking my weight and inseam length. My weight is 185 lbs, inseam 30", my next question was should I get the standard or the heavy duty 440's. I mostly ride long distance solo so he recommended the hd's since I would be adding luggage. When the 440's came from Progressive they were adjusted to the softest setting. I installed them and am very satisfied with the smoother ride. Leaving this month on a 5800 mile trip from MD to CA so I feel confident they will make the trip more comfortable.

Rear shocks can make such an improvement to your ride it is worth hanging on until you can afford a good quality pair. Then get them the length you want.

I started with a lowering kit and did not like the ride at all. Shorter shocks are the way to go. I went from 13" standard shocks to 12" Street Glide shocks and it was much better.
