Red face Trends in worst upgrades

I like these posts because they appear to be real circumstances where you would not do the upgrade or purchase again. It appears that there are some consistencies here that are a bit surprising: Reinhard quality and poor customer service, Kuryakyn, J&M and so on. This has been helpful for me in the midst of a decision on true duals or slip ons, and between V&H and Reinhart.

Upgraded my girlfriend to my wife. All she does now is make a distinct "whining" noise. Still leaks every now and then and I've noticed that maintenance cost has dramatically increased.

Hahaha my wife does the same. The store wouldn't take her back.

A previous post jogged my memory on the most useless and fundamentally flawed and expensive purchase I've made: a Harley halogen headlight before LEDs. HD stole my money on that one.

#2 HD heated grips. Worked pretty well and were expensive and after a year or so the left grip controller quit working. Quite a bit of money for that too. Bought heated Warm and Safe gloves and heated jacket liner with dual wireless controller: now those are excellent purchases!

Put some chrome around the radio on my road glide. Reflects lots of sunlight into my eyes at times. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

My LRS windshield. After 4 months it broke at both outer bolt holes. I cut 3" off the bottom of the stock shield and put it back on.

Kuryakyn cruise arms. They bolt to the underside of the floorboards.
VH big shot duals. Sounded bad, performed even worse.
Rinehart duals. Sounded good, no low end torque.
Hd se air cleaner. Not much flow, paper element expensive to replace.
Chopped tour pak. Looks cool, not enough space for much gear.
Tank bra. Yes, it scratches your paint.
Mustang seat. Padding is flat after about 100 miles.
Michelin commander II tire. Some work, some don't, mine didn't.
Pirelli night dragon tire. Worn out in less than 4k
Any rear shock lowering brackets. Ride is harsh and reduces lean angle.

But my all time worst/best "upgrade" was my third wife. Almost immediately after install, she doubled in size, became incessantly whiney, and it cost me 30k to send her back. But I did get a beautiful daughter out of the deal that was worth all the rebuilding cost....

Other side didn't break, but was a POS. Had to take apart and loctite when new, and then a year later to prevent arm from loosening up. If you make it tight you can't move it. Loose enough to move, after a few thousand miles have to take it off again. So not only was it a waste of $190, now I am missing $135 worth of stock floorboard and mount, also.
Same thing happened to me. the left side broke the bolt after about 10K miles. thought maybe i had a bad bolt so i remounted it. 9k miles late it snapped when my wife was getting on. now in the trash.
