Default Too hot....well try this

I see a lot of threads complaining about the heat waves in the US.

Don't mean to trivialise this and I am sure it is causing heart ache for many, but next time you find yourself bitchin' about the heat, spare a thought for us across the ocean on this mud island called Great Britain.

The rain here has been relentless. If I have done a 1000 miles in the last 3 months I would be amazed.

At least you can ride early in the morning or late afternoon - here it NEVER stops raining!!

We had our share of that too. It rained part of almost every day for most of May and part of June.

So that is where all our rain went.

We have an office in the UK, so I have heard about all the rain.
Here in the Midwest (Missouri), the heat wave seems to have broke.
Highs back in the more normal (upper 80's F.)

We had several days in a row of over 100°F (38°C).
And only about an inch of rain over the last month and a half.

I am not complaining too much though, because I just hate winter when the temps get down below freezing.

FINALLY got in a really pleasant 150 mi. ride here in northern CO today! 85-ish and dry. Really great, for a change.

The heat's back starting tomorrow, though.

Took a vacation ride of two weeks to Charleston/Savannah/Atlanta looped through five states end of May beginning of June, of 14 days 4 rained, of 2200 miles 600 were in the rain now the Midwest is as parched as it gets with the wind very uncomfortable on 100+ days. Kind of wishing that rain was back as it was at least cool weather.

We're in our rainy season out this way. Already had two tropical storms almost back to back last month. Now thunderstorms in the afternoons. Tropical. Heat and humidity. Early morning rides are great. We ride when we can, even in the wet stuff. Just not as much when we get the severe lightning storms. After all, we hold the distinction of the most cloud to ground lightning strikes.

Another thing that works in the heat--every time you stop (gas/rest area/food) put cold water in your helmet & make sure the foam padding absorbs as much water as it can. Pour out the excess. Put helmet on, feel water run down your neck & cool you off.

With a half helmet, this worked for about 100 miles in 95*+ temps before the helmet was dry and noggin started cooking again.

Then I rode in a torrential downpour today, got completely soaked (to a point where the water wicked its way down my socks and filled my boots), and wondered why I didn't just try something like that last week when the temps hovered around 100*. I'm sure it would have lasted longer than 100 miles.

That Fl rain is nasty. I've drove through Nor' easters with no problem (in a cage) but had to pull over 4 times in FL due to blinding rain that was going sideways.

I swear FL summers are the exact opposite, but just as annoying, as New England winters. But at least you guys don;t have to shovel
