i have a 2010 SG...love it. i'd been off a bike for about 4 years and then i somewhat "inherited" a older fat boy back in 2009... when i was at the dealer (first time in about 5 years) getting some keys..they had 5 street glides by the door i kept looking over at them when i was filling out paper work...long story short, just about a year later i owned one.
I never thought i'd consider a bike like that.... you know "a dresser" (which is what they USED to be called before the stripped down versions came around....seems kinda like an oxymoron when you think of it..a dressed up bike thats stripped down?) but like i said in my defense i'd never really seen a street glide...or never looked close enough to notice.
I just remember looking at the bike and thinking "wow look at that, a bike that looks cool AND it would be very usefull"
I'm not the kinda guy thats gonna tell you get this, or get that. I WILL say ride one, ride as many of them as you can...
From my experience...If you and the other half are used to a Dyna, a Street Glide with a Sundowner seat would be a nice upgrade. If she wants a little more storage, you can look into a detach rack with some type of soft bag.
You said you ride the open road..... get out there with a fairing in front of you, turn on the radio, and hit the cruise controll and you won't be able to remember what color your DYNA was....

p.s. uness you're 5' nothin' the stock windshield can definately be inproved on.... but thats a cheap mod

I too dislike telling someone what bike to buy, we're all a little different....
You didn't state what size or age either of your are, but riding a Dyna I'm assuming ( yeah, I know) you're younger...if that's the case you'll like the SG over a Classic or Ultra....if your wife is small or medium size she'll be ok with the SG too, sundowner seat will be one of the first upgrades needed, along with a taller windshield....the shocks are harsher on the SG/RG. Only 12" compared to 13" on the classic and Ultra....

Best advice is test ride as many as you can, solo and two up...you're the only one that can say which he is better for you, not anyone here....

I ride a SG now, but I ride solo all the time...but if the wife were riding, I'd be on a Ultra, hands down...

DON'T BUY A STREET GLIDE! I hear the Road Glide is a much better choice..... Have fun!

Take a test ride. You know what they say about test rides though...

SG is an Ultra modded for a cooler look that sees more around town than trips. Definitely sexier. Looses utility and comfort though. I'd suggest an Ultra and do the mods that YOU want instead of the ones Willie G. thought you wanted.

No matter which Touring rig you pick ya can't go wrong though.

Don't think you are going to hear it said better than that.

However Willie G. decided chrome bumpers, passenger floor boards, large running lights, white walls, barcalounger sized rear seat and a king pack.

We decided adding a few things was a lot better than stripping off a bunch of other things.

Thanks for all the info. Nope not that young. 52 and 5.9 and thinking more comfort with style. I do like the fact that a beer tastes dam good after a 800 mile beating. The dealer is holding one of each for a test ride. I will let you know maybe by this weekend. Thanks again.

Keep in mind that you dont need a tour pack on the SG. I run my marcee cruiser bar bag that I had on my softail for longer trips. Just a good cheaper option than buying the monster and (super ugly) box for the back...JK. Good luck!!!

Liked my Dyna, Love my SG, whole different ride, handles great & not super tired after a long ride. I rented for a few days before I bought, I have not looked back. Good luck.
