Question Clutch not grabbing anomaly...

Full tension in clutch handle, grab clutch, pull, shift into 1st, go to let clutch out, no grab - no go, pull clutch in, shift to 2nd, let clutch out, still no grab.

Turn handle bars to far right, grab clutch again, shift into 1st, clutch starts to work as normal.

So anyone have any clues, ideas, suggestions, on what the heck is going on? I just replaced the clutch cable on Monday, and everything was working just fine, 24 hours later this issue has reared its ugly head.

Not having any issues while riding and going through gears. Seems to only happen after a stop and shut off. Did the same thing to me this morning on a cold start as well.

TIA for any help.

Go thru the adjustment again, maybe the jamb nut in the derby wasn't tight and the adjustment changed

Check the cable routing and readjust.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the replies even on the holidays!

Found the issue - new clutch cable is bad - it has separated from the pinch at the adjustment area causing the cable to stay retracted and causing the clutch to not engage. I will need to replace the cable, looks like I will need something a tad longer than stock as well.

If you are replacing a stock cable for a stock cable,it should work.

Are the cables the same?

I think when I had the touring bars put on (2.5 years ago), the dealer who did the work had to put on a longer cable, and when I just replaced that cable on Monday with just a stock cable it was too short causing stress on the cable therefore causing the separation of the outer cover from the adjustment nut. So the outer cover part is getting hung up on the lip of the pinch/crimp part keeping the clutch disengaged. So I need to find the part# for the clutch cable that is about 2" longer than stock.

I took the derby off and noticed that when I turn the steering in any one direction the plate moves, not good.
