Default Did I just get porked?

Just picked up my bike after its 20,000 mile check, new sneaks and a few mi or adjustments. All covered by me pre paid maintenance so all good there. I decided to have them instal a stage one kit to open things up a bit. Was told $150.00. Get the invoice and it turned into $379.00. $140.00 for the Stage one, $150.00 for the digital download and $90.00 labor. I'm not even sure they put in a new air cleaner!!!!!

You should be able to see the difference in the air cleaner, as the S/E has a difference in the backing plate, to improve air flow. I would have though the Air cleaner change and download would have run about 1/2 hour labor, and it sounds like they got you for an hour, or 1.25 hours. Otherwise those prices sound like MSRP.

As for whether you "got porked", the first issue is that you were told one thing, and paid a completely different amount. The second is the labor strikes me as a little high, but not egregiously so. The A/C kit is that price, and the download is that price, so I wouldn't say you got mistreated.

Did they quote you $150 then do the work and charge you more, or were they just guess-timating on the $150?

Most dealers do charge $150 for the Stage 1 download and it is a rip off. So I'd say this is fairly typical for the parts and the labor, my guess is the 1 hour labor is 30 minutes for the SE AC install (which is reasonable) and 30 minutes for the download "install", which is ridiculous because it takes all of 45 seconds to do.

Personally I'd have gone with FL VIEDS (much less money) or a Power Vision (more money but worth it)

The stage 1 download isnt much value IMHO in part because it is still EPA lean, and for the ~~$190 you pay for it ($150 + 30 mins labor), there are better options as I mentioned above

Always get written estimates is my philosophy! Thankfully the only thing the dealer does for me is mount and balance new tires on a rim.

No you didn’t get Porked, but here is what I have seen just standing around the counter.

A customer asks how much for the “Stage 1 AC upgrade” and is quoted $140 by the parts guy. Which is what the part cost and that’s all he knows to look up.
Then he says to the service writer “give me a stage 1 upgrade why the bike is back there”.
Thus being the download also another $150 the parts guy knew nothing about.

The customer thought “Stage 1 AC” and “Stage 1” all meant the same thing.
Now the service writer should have informed you of the total cost…..and they pretty much go by the labor book on what time to charge for labor, not how long it actually takes them to do it.

So you did get charged a normal price, whether that is high or not is another story.

The only thing they get from me is 'I will let you know' when they ask if theres something I can get for you. After testing them with not being able to find neutral when I bought the bike and failling miserably theres not much they can do for me.

Short answer if you went to a dealer yes...The flipside is the charges seem about right from what I have seen.

No need to take the seat off. Bag pops off, 5 seconds, plastic cover pops off 3 seconds, connect digital technician to data port 5 seconds, that leaves about 30 seconds for the actual flash.

OK, I'll be generous and say 3 minutes. Tops.
