Hard bags: bottom protection

RE: Hard bags: bottom protection
Ive always found MOCO bashing to be an interesting phenomena. Why would someone pay $17,000-$22,000 for a bike and then spend the next several years bashing the bike manufacturer. I recently traded my '99 Ultra for a Black'07 Ultra. I closely watched H-D bike pricing for 8 years in between new bikes. Ifyou take the price of my '99 Ultra and add a conservative 4%per year (inflation) for 8 years the new '07 Ultra should cost approx $25,000....and that's without any price change for larger motor etc.
My '07 Ultra will get new mufflers, SE aircleaner, SERTand dyno tune and I'll still have far less than $25,000 into the bike. I can be critial all day long of some of the MOCO decisions relative to 6 speed transmissions etc but making the argument thatH-D has had inordinate bike price increases over the last 8 years is an argument that can't be one........Just my .02

RE: Hard bags: bottom protection
A coupl of years ago, I began carrying anold terry towel in the bag. It has save my chap knees, bag bottoms, and the occasional elbow. I had my bike loose halfof the primaryfluid after a change to SYN3 and a ride to Chattannoga. Woke up with a pee stain from the primary overnight.
The towel keeps the first aid kit and bungees from rattlin around too.

When I remove the hard bags for cleaning etc, I used to look for a soft place to set them so the bottoms would not be scratched. Not always having the luxury of a garage with clear bench tops or a patch of lawn handy. I chose to add four rubber 3/8"X3/8"X1/4"high self-adhesive door bumpers to the bottom of each bag. These allow the bags to set on any hard surface withlittle risk to the paint. Most hardware stores sell these in various colors and sizes.
Hope this helps,
