Default Check engine light

While on a week long trip last week in the Smokey mountains I ran into a situation about 3 or 4 times. I start the bike up and when i go to give it gas a few seconds later the check engine light comes on and I have little to no power. The first time it happened I was on the Blue Ridge Parkway and just pulled out of an lookout point area and as soon as I got back on the parkway I find that I can't go over maybe 15 mph and giving it more throttle does nothing. I had to pull over to the side, shut off the bike, wait a few seconds and start it back up and all is well, the engine light is off and I have full power.

And as previously mentioned it happened maybe 3 more times through out the week once while giving it gas going up an expressway on ramp, another time pulling out of a parking lot. When it happens the check engine light is on solid and is not blinking.

I have to wait to take it in to the dealer at the moment but was wondering if anyone else had experienced this strange issue.

I am assuming you have TBW Welcome to the world of "Limp Home" Mode .. My Ultra is in the Shop Right now because of it .. I have extended warranty so let them worry about it .. They called yesterday and said replaced the ECM Now whether the whole ECM was truly bad or just had a couple of bad pins really don't care because it's on their dime now .. Have also heard of some having trouble with the Throttle Sensor as well .. Wish you well on this ..

Default Same problem, Today

Had the same thing and called the service dept. at the dealer and talked to a tech there and he thought by the trouble code that it was in the circuit for the throttle control. There are a couple of connections, one behind the fairing and the other behind the intake filter (neither easy to get to). I tapped the throttle a couple of times and the check engine light went off. Taking it into the dealer on Monday. So far the dreaded "Check Engine Light" has stayed off. Bummer when it goes into the "Fast Idle Mode" and you can't get above 20 MPH. You can get your butt run over here in Florida at that speed.

How Well I know .. With Close to 90K of TBW on my 08 EGS and 09 Ultra thought it was a pretty good thing until was passing a Semi doing 80 MPH and had this happen ..

Check the plug on the throttle body just behind your breather. Most common fix is pulling that connection, throwing some dielectric grease in it, and making sure it's solidly connected.

The plug is an oval connector with two wires coming out of it. Did you recently change your breather or mess with the intake area?

Mine gave me trouble in Mississippi on the way back from Florida. The dealer there knew about the issue, and suggested I have my local dealer look at it when I got back. My local dealer said it was the first time he had heard of this problem. Same thing he said when the wheel bearings failed, and every other issue he is asked about.
