Just realized tonight that my brakes lights aren't working with my rear brakes. When front brake is pulled, they all light up. Changes have been...added plasma rods last summer (brake only) and didn't have an issue, this winter took several pieces off for powdercoat including taking rear brake pedal off. Worked after that, not sure when it went out. Is there a separate switch for front and back I should look at? Or any ideas.
The brake lights work off of a presssure switch in the brake line. I would suggest checking the output of the pressure switch, when brake pedal is pushed line pressure increases and activates the switch. Easy inexpensive fix, just had mine replaced under warranty.
Did you buy it used? My '09 had a rear brake light switch recall. Got the notice in March maybe? Still haven't remembered to take it in for the recall. Check with the dealer or call Harley with your VIN ready to check it out.
Take it to the dealer if it's 2009 or newer, there is a recall on the rear brake light switch, doesn't matter if you bought it new or used, they will fix it under the recall.
There's a "brake light switch recall" where the hell have you been?
guess i just always skipped reading that stuff since it doesn't sound too exciting, or a way to spend money ...i did do a search, must have not done it right.
A bad switch can also keep your brake light on and prevent the use of your cruise control. This is what happened to my RK. I did not find out if it can affect both your front and rear brake levers. My Indy fixed mine on my RK during a mod- it was a coincidence it went bad at the same time I scheduled my mods, otherwise I would of taken it to HD.
.....and shouldn't i have received something on this in the mail? (yes bought it new, '09 FLHX)
Nothing in the mail. I actualy fixed mine (2009 Street Glide) before the recall and had to ask to have my money refunded. It took a while but I got a refund.
