Default xm antenna install for my 665

So, the install of my 665 is done to the point of mounting the GXM 40 hockey puck antenna. The bottom of the antenna has a thin rubber base. The antenna doesn't appear to be magnetic as it won't stick to the top of the radio. The provided two-sided tape won't stick to the rubber on the bottom of the antenna (not good enough for me to feel comfortable with it anyway) but likely will to the top of the radio.

What am I doing wrong? I see nothing more in the kit to use to mount it and the directions just say to mount it using the tape.

My 665 had an additional magnetic metal plate in the box that I screwed to the bottom of the antenna. I then set it on the radio. It hasn't moved in 5000 miles.

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=27341 $18 from Garmin, but I had one in the box.

Mine didn't have the magnet as well. Used two wire ties and placed it on top of the CB radio.

No magnet plate in the box, just a ring of two sided tape that won't stick to the rubber bottom of the antenna. So I guess I'll need to figure a way to get it securely mounted with something else. I guess they didn't charge enough for the 665 to make the mounting foolproof.

I have the Garmin 665 not the Roadtech.

From Garmin's website -

What's in the Box:
  • zūmo 665
  • Preloaded City Navigator® NT for North America*
  • Motorcycle mount with integrated power cable and mounting hardware
  • GXM™ 40 antenna and magnetic base
  • Carrying case
  • Dust cover for motorcycle mount
  • Battery pack
  • Automotive suction cup mount**
  • Automotive power cable
  • USB cable
  • Dashboard disk
  • Quick start manual

Looks like HD may have subbed the tape for tha magnetic base. Has anyone gotten tape to stick to the soft rubber base of the antenna?

Go to store and buy some Velcro. Stick it to top of radio. Done.
