Default First big adventure

Well, I'm getting ready to leave on my first big trip. Leave Ohio this afternoon with an 8:00 AM drive-in appointment at Mean City Cycles tomorrow morning for a little seat work. Then on to SW Louisiana to meet some friends from another forum for a Cajun food fest. Then meandering my way back to Ohio. All told, I'm going ~2,500 miles through WV, VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, LA, TX, AR, TN, and KY. Looking forward to it, except that I'm leaving on the hottest day of the year...

Drinking lots of water, ProPad air circulating pad, and hoping I can stand a couple of 800 mile days.

If it's any consolation I hear you on the heat. Leaving Wisconsin tonight, visiting friends in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, West Virginia and Ohio. Gonna be some scorchers. Be safe!

You picked a rough week for an adventure. The heat will be brutal. Make sure you wear something to block the sun and most of the wind. At those temps the wind doesn't cool you, it heats you.

WooHoo! Sounds awesome, have a safe trip and take lots of pics. Nothing like a big road trip! Keep us posted on your progress

I'm currently in the middle of a big 4500+ mile trip right now. From San Diego to western Illinois. I do this every year and it's the highlite of my year for sure. I love to take the old US Routes and stay off the interstate freeways as much as possible. I go thru at least 8 states by the time I get home. It's the best therapy there is!

First big trip with 800 miles days planned? Ouch.

Stay hydrated and watch for fatigue.

+1 on the hydration and appropriate gear. Hope that seat work from MCC works out well for you.

Good Luck, but I think I would be heading north this time of year.

I've done multiple 400 - 500 mile days, it's just that they were individual trips. I've never been on a 2,500 mile ride and the overall schedule forces me into one 800 and one 700+ mile day.

I'll stay hydrated and take frequent stops. I'll also have a mesh jacket on (& boots, jeans, compression shorts, helmet). Thanks for the advice guys.

If it weren't for a gathering of friends, in Lake Charles, LA, I would be, too.
