Default 6th Gear Indicator

I have a 2008 FLHT. The 6th gear indicating light flashes ramdomly when up shifting or down shifting, no other problems that I know of. Transmission works fine and the light works when 6th gear. Any ideas of whats going on? This started about 2 weeks ago. Tranny oil is synthetic with about 5000 miles since the last change.

Thanks

Default 6th gear light

The 6th gear light is has nothing to do with your transmission. the ECM takes the bikes speed and engine RPM and does the math to figure out if it is in 6th. Do you have a tuner? A tuner like SERT and Power Vision gives you the option of changing the number of pulses from the speed sensor to change the MPH. If you have been playing with that option, that could explain why it is acting different now.

The light goes out when you pull in on the clutch. Consider it a "6th gear engaged light"
Try holding the clutch in and coast a while, the "6th gear light" will stay off until you release the clutch.

Default 6th Gear Lite

Bike has no tuner installed, do have XIEDs. Good to know the ECM turns the light on and not something in the tranny. Its just annoying when the 6th lite flashes when shifting between random gears. Thanks

Mine will also flash for a moment when down-shifting... always has. I'd say its normal.

My SG does this occasionally, especially when going into 5th gear. Oddly, it's mostly when using the heel shift. But I agree with others here, I think it's just normal.
