Default CAM Question - T-Man 555 vs. Others???

Here's my setup:
  • Stock 2012 103 RKC
  • Stage 1 SE AC
  • V&H True duals Header
  • V&H HI Ouput Slipons
  • SE Pro Super Tuner
Application/Needs:
  • Often ride with the OL (30% of the time)
  • Looking for more LOW and Mid range...even if solo (I don't run too far to the right in RPM's...about 4500 - 5500 is as far as I'd dare to go)
I'm being advised that the T-MAN 555's are a great cam for this senerio
  • I really need your advise and thoughts on this cam selection...HELP!
  • Are there any warentee issues with making this type of mod?

That's funny. I'm dropping the bike off tomorrow for my 1k service and was just asking about the T-man cams too because that's what the dealership had suggested. I also talked to Jamie today about the Woods 555's. I'll be watching for info here.

If you dont rev past 4500-5000 the old 255 cams are hard to beat. Reuse your pushrods too. Cheap sets are everywhere. Low to mid will definitely gain...

Default Woods 555

Can't go wrong with Woods 555 cams. I have a FLHTK with Fulsack head pipes and 2 inch cores. Woods 555 cams and a RS turbine air cleaner. The bike came out at 96.7 hp and 99.6 tq. The cams are a little noisy but not noisy enough to offset the performance. The tq curve is strong from 2K up. I have also heard great reviews on the Andrews cams with the 103 engine. Good luck and enjoy the new found power!

So I went to the dealership and they started to tell me how I'd need to do the heads and piston to get any "real" return on the investment of this kind of engine. I smell a rat there as they are trying to get me to spend upwards of $5K or more to do this. I'm thinking that this is WAY OVERKILL for the performance in low to mid end torque.

Thoughts?

Cheapest option, get some take out se 255 and reuse stock pushrod. 255 dont need any headwork. Run out the box and good for 2 up

The HD255 cams are really hard to beat off the bottom and can be bought way cheap as like new take offs. I bought a couple sets for $100 and installed them in friends bikes.

That said, I have the TMan 555 Torqsters in my bike. I felt that they would be better suited to off the bottom torque than the TMan 555 or Woods 555. I am incredibly happy with them!!! I'm even more happy with the bike after changing the front pulley to a 30 tooth. However, as with any other sickness I couldn't help myself......should see my Baisleys heads in a few weeks. Then I hope that I can be done.

Amen to that. My intention when I bought my bike was to do a stage 1, and then leave it alone. Hah! That lasted about a month. Once you catch 'upgrade fever' you're cooked. The frame may very well end up being the only stock thing left on my bike at some point. I still have a LONG 'wish list'.
