Have You Skidded or Tumbled after falling off
#32
We were wearing regular old "zippers everywhere biker jackets"... they got some road rash...but nothing all the way through... the jeans were regular old plain denim. Mine had a couple of little wear holes about my hip... hers had a hole in the knee... she got road rash on her knee.. .probably the way she fell.. she had more pressure on her knee than I did across my whole left side... and I think that her jeans were thinner than the normal old Levis like mine were.

ouch
I wrecked a couple months ago going 65ish, long sleeve tee and jeans, no helmet. I live in az and had taken off my jacket in the high country before riding down off the mountains. Lots of road rash and missing a piece of my forehead, state trooper said he could see parts of my levis for the 170' I skidded-tumbled. I don't remember a lot except it hurt a bunch. I rec amend not to go down.

I was hit head on and was going just under 40, I more or less skidded on my helmet and shoulder, was wearing jeans and a leather bomber tye jacket, got a tear in the jeans when my leg took out the audio controls and a little road rash. Jacket had a scuff on it and that was it. Half helmet was scratched but I swear I could feel the foam compress as I hit the road.

Well there are only 2 kinds of riders; those that are gonna go down and those that are gonna go do again. Dress for the crash not for the ride. I don't heed my own advise all the time. Slide across the Benicia bridge many years ago in dress pants, loafers, jc Whitney 1/2 lid and leather jacket. Just some pretty good road rash on hips & butt. Lucky! Went down on track at about 80mph in full gear, slid/rolled along way. Broke arm, no rash. High sided pulling out of the house and knocked myself out in Arai full face at 15mph. Been down in levis, They don't stop rash! I do ride in kevlar jeans but haven't been down? Also have Bonn padded under pants and **** I always wear off road and they are great! Also wear them under kevlar and normal jeans sometimes. The poly mesh padded pants/jackets are great in the heat too. Real gear works! less is, well, less. You get to pick your risk - pain level.

In March 2011 I went down at about 40-45 MPH riding home from work. My Kawasaki Nomad went down on its left side, that's when I hit the asphalt, then flipped over on its right side and slid about 40-50 feet. I slid/rolled about 12-15 feet before coming to a stop in the oncoming lane. Luckily, there were no cars and the truck in front of me (driven by an off duty LEO) turned across the lane to block oncoming traffic.
I was wearing a 3/4 helmet, a polo shirt and jeans. My forearms got the worst of it, pretty nasty road rash. My knees had what could best be described as "floor burns" on them. My jeans didn't wear through, but I had some 2nd degree burns, each about the size of a quarter.
My leather jacket was in one of my saddlebags, it was about 85° degrees that afternoon and I decided it was too nice to wear it.
My bike was totaled - just shy of $10000 damage. The insurance settlement allowed me to buy my Ultra Limited, so it had a silver lining.

I've been down twice. The first time was at 70 mph when I was rear-ended by a hit n run driver on the freeway. I never saw it coming, it was over and done with in an instant. I fell free of the bike, landed on the back of my head and upper part of my back, then slid from 70 mph down to zero on my back on the freeway. The leather lined Cortech DSX riding jeans I was wearing literally saved my *** from some major road rash. The denim right pocket area at the buttock was vaporized right down to the leather panel, which then took the abuse with flying colors. Otherwise it would have been my BVD's and then ME. I got up and walked away thanks to a good helmet, Fox Creek leather jacket and leather lined riding jeans by Cortech.
Cortech DSX jeans are $89.99 shipped online and I swear by them. I've been wearing them for years now all year around. In summer they're reasonably cool, I really don't notice them as being overly hot compared to normal jeans. They don't look dorky either, look like regular jeans basically but have leather sewn into the knees and into the seat area. They also have removable CE rubber armor knee pads that you can use if you like.
