Default Heel shifter huh?

So I decided to take a little ride yesterday down to Heart of Dixie HD just because. When I reached home, I noticed that the heel section of my heel/toe shifter is gone. I thought I heard something metal hit when I was on the highway cruising, but I made a quick look around and didn't notice anything odd until I got back home. I have less than 1,000 miles on the bike. Ummm, should that have happened? I've had the bike a couple of months. I wouldn't think stuff should be falling off already. Should I contact them and be like "WTF?" The funny part is I had just bought the shifter cover to remove the heel section, but I'd rather have kept it than lose it on the highway.

One of the first items I remove when I get a new bike - trying to use it just gives me cramp and it rubs against my left boot.

But, it's yours to decide so if me I'd complain

You could try to get your dealer to replace it if you liked it.

I'm another that removed it when I bought mine.

I'd at least mention it based on the "newness" of the bike. They might take pity on you.

In the last 12 years and over 100,000 miles I've checked and tightened all the bolts around the shifter on a regular basis, particularly recently. The vibration does it's thing and the aluminum levers hollow out a bit over age and get loose. My rear lever is now secured by a longer bolt and a lock nut underneath it.

I lost the inside shifter lever screw on Lovers Leap in Hillsville, Va going down the mountain towards I 77 on a Sunday morning 2 years ago and came to a stop in a service garage who's owner just happened to be stopping by to pick up something for himself.

That's as much of my shifter issues I ever want fixed by pure dumb luck ever again!

The dealer should replace it under warranty, personally I love mine.

Sorry to hear that man!!
Now in theory only way the shifter should fall of is if the screw is completely out. So HD might say u have messed with it. But worth a try....good luck. Oh....loc-tite the front one!!

If you are a Harley owner, Loctite is your friend.

It's neat when you first get a bike with a rear shifter, but I (like a lot of other riders) ended up missing the extra space for foot movement and removed it.

But, if you want to keep it, l would tell the dealer what happened. With only 1k miles, it could certainly be argued that it wasn't on correctly when they delivered the bike.
