I installed the PCV on both my 09 Rocker and 10 SG right after purchasing them. The trick is to hit the start button while you still hear the fuel pump priming. If I miss and start a bit to late, it takes a couple extra seconds of starter motor to get the engine going. Easy habit to get used too.

in the owners manual, it will tell you that the check engine light goes out after about 4 seconds after you have flipped the ignition and the engine run switch on. well, it seems that hd salesman took that to mean that you had to wait that 4 seconds until you started it. if you don't wait, it will not throw codes, steal your girl scout cookies, or kick the dog... or any of the other 'bad' things that the salesman will tell you it will do.

just give it a quick second to make sure the system is pressurized and then start it.... (just like everyone else has already said )

Yep, they told me that too, except they said it "might cause the CEL to come on." BS. I've been starting it quickly now for >5 years and have yet to trip a code or have the CEL illuminate. What's more, there is nothing in either the owners or service manuals (2007) that tell you to wait for the CEL to go out before starting. I don't even wait one second, but turn the ignition on with my left hand and start it immediately thereafter with my right hand. I'm impatient anyway, so it suits my lifestyle.

When I bought my bike, they also told me to wait for the CEL to go off before starting it up.

Will this fix also work for me? I've got CFR's (new style) with FM Air Filter and V&H DD, I mapped it with a PV and a map FM sent me for this setup. and has since started rough. The PV isn't installed permanently so it wouldn't be rebooting like the PCV is.

Sounds like this is an epidemic of misinformation, and it would be good to know why all these dealers are doing this. Again, it is not mentioned in either my '07 owners or service manual.

The delayed start issue shouldn't happen with the PV unless there is something wrong with the tune. I have the PV now and haven't tried waiting, but I would assume it's not an issue with a flash-based tuner. Whether you have the PV attached or not would be irrelevant, as it is not in the tuning loop while running and is usable only to datalog, monitor gauges, as well as store and flash tunes.

Did it begin to start "rough" after installing the PV and flashing the FM tune? Please describe what happens in detail.

Interesting everyone is correct if you hit the start within a millisecond of turning the key on it starts immediately... but if you are a half second late then it needs to turn over more before starting.

I'd bet the starter current draw is causing a large enough sag in the line voltage for the PCV to interpret it as a power fail (due to the fact it has no battery) and this causes the reboot.

Went on a little trip the other day and even though stating immediately after the ignition was turned on helped a lot it still did not cure the problem 100% of the time. Yesterday while talking with Fuel Moto we installed new firmware in my PCV and discussed the stating procedure. Guess I should have read the manual.. I was not using the run/off switch to stop/start the motor. Using the switch makes it easier to start quickly. Next week I'll see how firmware install and new starting procedure for me work out.
