Gas Mileage

FLHR mileage
07 FLHR minimized additional weight from highway pegs, bag guards, etc broomsticked pipes with head pipe baffle and Daytona twin tech fuel adjuster. I get 37-40 during Florida summers, 40+ during the winter around town (Orlando) I can get up to 42 or more on the highway 2 up with bags loaded and big sissy bar on back loaded too. I think it was better before ethanol was in all gas...

I have a 2012 Ultra Classic, completely stock with about 2000 miles on it. I generally accellerate to about 2900 - 3000 RPM before shifting to the next gear. I've been consistantly seeing 37 -38 MPG running mostly 5th gear at 60 MPH at around 2700 - 2800 RPM. Is that about right or does that seem a touch low?
It seems like it should be a bit higher but I guess I'd like to ask the experts. Will the mileage increase as the bike 'breaks in' more or should I be looking at another cause? Maybe it's right about where it should be... Not sure. Thoughts/feelings? Thanks.

I just decided to hell with it. Ride like I want to and put gas in the tank when it needs gas in the tank.

I think that low of a rpm is doing more harm to the engine than you are gaining in mpg. Keep that rpm up to at least to 2500 to 3000 or more. MPG will go down. But. That is better than lugging an HD engine. Bad on the lower end bearings. And. Drive train. . JMHO!

I have posted about this and have seen many other post about it. I have tried all kinds of combinations of mufflers and EFIs. Stock to Stage 1 to PCV. Rode by my self like a crippled, invalid, blind, deaf, alzheimer's person. No offense. 38 mpg is the best,I mean, the best, I have ever achieved on my 2007 Ultra. Some claim 50mpg plus. Riding 2 up with 400 pounds of stuff on. Going 90 mph against a 40 mph head wind. Good for them.

The "shark-nosed" machines seem to do better than the others. For those posting mileage differences between E10 and pure gas, that looks like the same 10% loss on corn that I see with my cages also. Until E10 is discounted 10% from the price of pure gas, it is less expensive to run straight gas.
