there has been failure after failure of members here and now there must be enough to make a "campaign" I understand how you don't replace something that does not need it but they are having issues BIG time with the 2012 regulators so much so they having a"campaign" this is just a way to brush it under the rug....

My dealer received the VR replacement kits. I had mine replaced today since mine fell in the date code range (was an 0612). New VR is a date code 2212. No questions asked, dealer was aware of the program when I called to make the appointment. I didn't have to pay anything - all done at no charge.

Like the man said earlier: The MOCO calls it a recall only if they are encouraged by the FEDS to recall certain bikes due to a "safety" issue. Most things don't rise to that occassion. A campaign is when they determine that a group of bikes are failing due to a specific part being less than perfect. It does not rise to the occassion of being a life and death safety issue. It is all about semantics and lawyers. Remember when Bill Clinton swore to Budha that he and Monica Lewinsky did not have sex? Well, now the MOCO is doing to the owners of 2012 bikes what he did not do to Monica. Understand?

My dealer advised that it is recommended to get it replaced. I had no issues with my original one on my 12 SG with 1300 miles. They went ahead and just replaced it for me no questions asked. Another dealer told me if it ain't broken by 500 miles it's not going to malfuntion, so I think hit is hit and miss with the dealers...

The supplier had a bad batch of VR. The VR is a solid state device. HD or no one can tell what the life of a solid state device will be. You can test each one and it will test okay until the moment it dies.
HD begain having failures and replacing them under warranty. When it became apparent that more than a few( roughly 1 in 4) were failing. Investigations lead to HD understanding the lots that were affected and issued the product program 0912. HD then notified the dealers the VIN #'s of the bikes that dealer sold for them to take care of. How could any person of ordinary intelligence call that sweeping the issue under the rug?
That would be stepping up to the plate by any standard.
Would it be a safety recall if one ran out of gas? When the VR fails you have until the battery goes flat which one poster on the issue said for him was 80 miles. Safety issue my @ss. some people are just morons.
Also many of the VR's in the date period will not fail - just some of them.
Mine has 3,400 miles and most of those that fail do so a lot sooner.
What did I do. I just bought a replacement VR from J&P for a lot less than HD dealers sell them for. They fit many models as stated in the 0912 program. I have all of those models and except for the 12's they are out of warranty so it is okay to have a standby for whatever one needs it.
In the mean time I won't bug the dealer until he tells me that he has a VR ready for me .
What I did not do is go on this forum rant and rave and make ignorant comments and suggest radical unfounded actions. I wonder just how old some are by the immaturity reviled in some of the posts.
Grow up. Man up and take care of business in an adult responsible manner.
