Thanks to Dawg for posting a lot of great info in the separate thread here. The VRs that are subject to Product Program 0912 are stamped with dates ranging from 4011-5211 and 0112-0912. Supposedly, according to the Service Bulletin dated 06/11/12, the first shipments of replacement VRs are due to hit dealers beginning the week of 06/18/12. This program is to replace "suspect" VRs in the specified date range, and there is no indication in the service bulletin that failure is required in order to replace.
I called my dealer and spoke to a tech who was aware of the program, but said they did not expect their "wave" of replacement VRs under the program for a couple more weeks (?). I was in a hurry, but plan to call back and talk to a tech I know, to confirm that is the real deal with their situation. Mine was date-stamped 4411, so Ive got one of the suspect VRs.

Not too many HD electronic components that are cheep, what would that cost ya? If the original ****er fail on your trip I suppose youd be thanking your lucky stars that you brought a spare? Who the hell knows. What are the symptoms of a VR going bad anyway?

I have used it twice- once on a Friday for 85 miles, then the following Monday for 110 miles cost to me=$0.*
( rear tire blow out/ tech error on install, causing 2nd blow out)
the $49 will cover 2 cars as well as 2 bikes ( by VIN) and also trip interruption.

this is well worth having !

* and i have to say the operators were great, as i was in the middle of nowhere, they called to check on my safety a couple of times.

"not my dealer" just told me that the precursor to a failure is the gauge will peg out and drop to zero....sounds like you will have some time to get somewhere as that exactly what happen to my friend out in Colorado this week.....he had time to ride it out the mtns to a dealer but he pushed last block......I pushed my 98HD once....it was wet and I pushed it in the garage...
