I bought a set off ebay for $30. You have to make sure they are pre-2005 so you don't have to deal with the catalytic insert. I started drilling a hole in the twodisks and gradually increased the hole size. I ended up with a 1/2 inch hole in the disk on the muffler inlet side and 3/8 inch on the rear disk. They are slightly louder, but still have the stock touring sound. It might have some very minor performance gain, but I was just interested in a little more sound. It worked for me.
Prior to that experiment, I got another used set and totally drilled out the disks. That, makes them sound like crap.

did my own on 06 flhtc. used a couple different hole saws on a 1/2 drill with a lot of WD-40 to lube the saw. followed up with a long 3/8" bit to punch some holes in the remains of the baffle and the restriction plate just behind the cat. when all was done, the sond was great and low end torque was great. became concerned about inadequate back preasure and manuafactured some plate material to cover many of the holes.

there's a guy on ebay that does the mod and reports no reprogramming is required with his modified stock mufflers.

I'd attach a pic or two of mine if I could figure out how to do it. yea, I'm a waek stick. HELP, how does one attach jpg's to a message????

OK, don't know if it was right or wrong but I do like the sound.
I built a template out of 1/4/ inch plate. I drilled a center hole with a 1 3/4 hole saw and cut the outer perimeter to fit inside of the outer flange on the muffler. I then drilled one 3/8 inch hole in the remaining ring. I inserted the template into the muffler on my 07 SG. Took a 3/8 drill bit and drilled holes and 12:00, 3:00, 6:00 and 9:00 positions. Started the bike and determined if it was enough or if I wanted more sound. I ended up drilling six holes in the right muffler and seven in the left, trying to even out the flow. I then noticed a big difference in the color of the head pipes, cherry red! Rode very carefully to my dealer and had a SERT installed. Love it now
