Default New engines available for a 1995 Road King

Hi All,

I'm new here, first post.
I want to know what engines are out there that I can put into my 1995 Road king chassis.
I'm looking for more power for a good responsive touring powerband. I live in Las Vegas and deal with mountain elevations and HIGH heat. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hawkeye

If it were me I would just get a HD Factory remanufacture. It's cheap and comes with an unlimited mile warranty (1yr).

i have a 92 fxr and have the motor out so i can haul it to tulsa for shipping to harley for the remanufacture program they have. i think it costs 24 to 26 hundred bucks, and you get an entirely new engine with your serial numbers stamped on at the factory. they claim they re use the parts, but in reality i believe the old motors they get in get munched and separated into two dumpsters for recycling. 1 for steel and one for non magnetics. the evo's are still available through your harley dealer. or you can go aftermarket, lots of choices. it just matters how much money you want to throw at it.

Cool

There are many options available. JIMS, Optima, RevTech and S&S amongst others all make crate motors. As HY suggested you could have your stock motor remanufactured by the factory, via your local dealer, but that will be bone stock. You could have your current motor rebuilt by a tuning shop, to give improved performance, or you could really push the boat out with a billet motor from the likes of R&R. Your frame will take a motor of up to around 131" without mods, but there are 145" and even bigger, if you modify your frame.

From which you can see that you have asked a question for which there really is not an answer! I have an S&S 107" in my 1990 Glide, but really would like even more!

So there are some suggestions. There is no short cut through this, you have to study the infinite options, carve your way through them all, decide what you are trying to achieve, set a budget, then go! If you go for a big motor, even my 107", there are added costs for beefed up clutch etc. As the motor gets bigger, the add-ons get more extensive and expensive.

Best of all talk to a few local specialists to get their suggestions, if you plan having the work done. There is no point deciding on something, then finding nobody local will touch it!

My choice would be to stick with a new EVO from HD. Personally, I like them a little better than the TC88 96 or 103s

A lot of choices out there as have been suggested.

If you want factory stock with a warranty here is the link
http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...bmLocale=en_US

If you want to change from a EVO to to a Twin Cam you may have to make some other changes.

I've been there and seen it.

useable parts ( within spec) such as cases, cylinders, heads etc. are re-used.

unless this "all -new everything" is a very recent innovation.

the HD remanufacture program is very good - BUT the end result is a bone-stock motor....of about 55 horse power ( 45 for california spec cams). that 55 will go to 62~5 if hi flow air cleaner and pipes are on the bike.

for the OP's "I want power" he may do better with one of the crate motors mentioned above.

if it were me, I'd be looking at S&S. the motor chosen has to work with the weight, gearing and riding style ( and budget) S&S knows which motor specs work better on a touring bike ( as opposed to a 450 pound FXR).

1 thing: the local PHX craigslist is always full of motors- I think many of these fell out the back door of titan and swift- they are "S&S" parts but in most cases were not assembled by S&S.
and the paperwork ( MSO) may be suspect.
In the last months of titan parts were sold out the back door every weekend for cash.

Great ideas... I see some real research coming, starting tonight. It's to bad about the engine program only building to stock, I'd love to be able to slip a larger HD engine in it.
I'm going to dig into all of your suggestions, also some talk with Red Rock Harley ,here in Vegas. Also too, Sinister Cycles for what they have to offer, a local tuner/shop with a good rep.
I want to thank all you guys for your input. Thumbs up!

Hawkeye
