that motor is designed for synthetic, I use the HD syn 3 in the motor.
the primary/clutch I use HD primary +

same in the tranny.

GET the HD manual ( not a clymer)- as newbie mistake #1 is to dump the tranny oil when they meant to change the motor oil.

The HD website has an area where you create a profile and enter the vin to see if any outstanding recalls are on the bike.

enjoy !

Default oil used

Put 20w-50 in your engine 4 quarts with filter,,,manual calls for 10W-40 in you primary, about 26 ounces, myself I used the 20W-50 in the primary,it's hot here, and with a a stock 88 you should not have any slipping trouble. In the tranny use 75-90 gear oil, about 28 ounces, just check as you go,I might be off on capacities, but after you do it once you will be the expert.Just a tip if you ever want to supercharge your bike,do this change your front sprocket, from a 26 tooth,to a 24.You will be amazed by the results,Don't overfill the engine with oil,if you do it will slobber out of your carb.between the marks, and it'll be fine. Also their is a website where you can download manuals for your bike.I'll try to find it,and I'll let you know. Have a kickass time!

Congrats on the bike, mine didn't have a manual either. cant help you much on the oil thing, I just got my ultra classic a couple weeks ago from classic iron.

I believe its the same oil for two of them and another for the last hole, but I am sure someone will fill us both in.

there is a section in this forum that talks about oil.

Congrats on your new bike. I had a 99 Standard and I loved that bike. I would still be riding it but I totaled it last September. It had 88,000 trouble free miles on it.

The 99's and 2000 models had bad cam bearings and they were going out at around 25,000 to 30,000 miles. This could cause major damage to your motor. Have someone check to make sure the cam bearings have been changed.

Welcome to the forum and have fun on your new Harley!

Excellent bike. As others have said, cam bearings and tensioners. If you're in there, hey, good time to do a 95" and gear drive cams

In my 2000 I run Mobil 1 V-twin 20-50, Redline MTL in the primary, and Redline heavy Shockproof in the tranny. Doubt you'd be unhappy with those choices.

If you like to move along through the corners a bit, a Progressive Suspension Touring Link or similar makes a big improvement to the handling.

Congrats, sounds like you are getting some solid advice on recalls and concerns. Good Luck and post some pics when you can.

Thanks all, just picked up the bike and took the long way to work, lol. I did want to ask you guys another question, the mechanic that serviced my bike and went over it with me strongly advised me against synthetic oil in any hole, he told me he was a 20 year motorcycle mechanic and does not like it. The bike was serviced, chain tensioners were replaced along with 2 new tires and fluids in all 3 holes, they do not put synthetic in a bike for a before sale service. He told me every 5k to bring the bike in to be serviced and check the primary chain tensioner, what do you guys think? I race cars in the SCCA, have an x Busch car and use Brad Penn oils in it, would Brad Penn be ok to use in my Harley?

Thanks, Frank

One other thing, lol, sorry, the mechanic told me the gauges were not very accurate, I have a oil pressure gauge and at idle is very low, at running speed is between 30 and 35 hot,he told me as long as the oil light does not come on I am fine, at idle it goes down to about 5 psi on the gauge, should I be concerned???
Also I have a air temp gauge, air temp for what? lol
