Default Engine light and battery light coming on and off.

Was riding today and my engine and battery light came on then went off after a few miles then came on again. I noticed the volt meter dropped to 12 when lights were on then back to 14-16 when lights were off. Any ideas why? 2012 sg. Going to call the dealer but was looking for your thoughts before I call. Thanks.

You stated it was a 2012 so the battery isn"t likley to be the problem, that leaves the voltage regulator or the stator as the most likly culprits.

Regulator or loose battery connections are my first guess.

I have also read a few threads on here about the subject, maybe someone will have the link for you, it basically is a recall.

I vote voltage regulator, check you voltmeter when this is happening, I guarantee you its going low. Take it to the dealer and have it replaced before it leaves you stranded.

I'd call your dealer to see if your bike is affected (likely) and/or log in to the owners section of h-d.com, it will tell you if your bike has a faulty regulator.

I would check battery terminals first, had the same issue with my 06, it was a loose ground.
