Default Upgrade my radio?

Do you know if a newer Harmon Kardon stereo can be used on a 2001 electra glide? They say 2006 and up.Why is that? Thanks

Yes, the HK will be a plug and play install on your bike; you won't have Automatic Volume Control because of the difference in how the HK gets vehicle speed information compared to your '01.

As for HD's fitment info, it's probably because '05 and older models have 8 ohm speakers and the HK is a 2 ohm system; and, the previously mentioned loss of AVC.

I retrofitted the HK to my '04 EG because I wanted a clean CB installation and simply used the same HD products used on '06 and newer models; and, also added the iPod interface module.

But for the fact that I wanted the clean CB install, I'd have stayed with Biketronics/Sony set-up I had before installing the HK. HD's audio is very expensive compared to what's available in the aftermarket, particularly for features like XM/Sirus and iPod.

Default Yes the newer HK radio will work!

Funny enough I did exactly what you ask. I installed a 2006 HK CD unit in my 2001 FLHTC. Two things. 1. Mine is a classic, so didn't have CB, rear speakers, or separate AMP. 2. I sent my radio to IRONCROSSAUDIO and they set it up so the AVC does work. Having written that, I love the look and sound. Although, it would have been less expensive to buy a Sony radio & the special cables to use w the handle bar controls. But I didn't want that look. I also bought & installed a pair of 2ohm 6.5" speakers.

Good luck!

I have an 04 FLHTC and I used a Harman Kardon off an 08. I had problems with it and now have a Biketronics setup with an Alpine Marine radio.I had the AVC working on the Harman.I had to splice into the speed wire. But I would recomend a Aftermarket stereo over the Harman.
