Do I really need to buy an HD air pump for air shocks?

I bought one of those off brand pumps to save a buck. Waste of money compared to the HD pump. I now use the HD pump and wouldn't use anything else. Do yourself a favor, buy the HD pump...you won't be sorry.

I've only had my RG for 2 wks now. It had no air in the shock when I got it, I used an air compressor I got at Costco it has a guage and a quick release valve (no air leak) and it fills very slow, I put 10lbs in it and it does ride better. Anyway how often does the air leak out, how often should I check it?

The HD pump is a good well made tool . it won't lose air when you unscrew it.
I ran 26psi in my stock 13" shocks solo and 36psi two up .
I now have Bitchin Bagger 11" drop shocks .
They are stock shocks that were cut down ,diffrent spring ,diffrent oil, a stop so you can't bottom out on the fender and tear up your wiring harness like with lowering blocks
In theses air shocks i run 24psi solo 30psi two up.
Expermint with diffrent presures till you find what works best for you .
Check your manual for max presure for your year bike .
I think newer bikes max psi is 50lb ........40lb on older bikes.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong.
