Speedometer Question
Two weeks ago got pulled for speeding. Cop says he clocked me 57 in a 35. Since I was already going to be late for work did not want to argue and be later, but no f'n way I was going that fast in 4th, rpm's would have been pretty damn high. If he said 47, maybe plausible. He wrote the ticket for 9 miles over $131 vs >$200.00 (thanks). Either way I was over the posted MPH, and will deal with that. The other day I was crusing and noticed speedo only showing 30, but I know it was way higher than that. So my question is where to start troubleshooting? Speedometer, speed sensor? Or am I way of base, and something else?
Thanks

have you changed the size of your rear tire? changed transmission or gearing? drive belt pulley ratios? ECMs?
depending on your bike and what you changed (no info given) you could throw off your speedometer when you change things in the drivetrain. Your speed sensor could be faulty. Your speedometer calibration ratio could have been accidentally altered during an ECM reflash.

It is not difficult and also free to pull the speedo sensor and see if it has any metalic "fuzz" sticking on it. There used to be a lot of auto turn signal cancel, speedo and faulure of radio volume to auto adjust for speed traced back to that or an outright sensor failure. Perhaps someone knows if it can be checked with an ohm meter and what the reading should be.
