The D 407 and 408 are currently only available through a HD dealer. If you go to the Dunlop site it also states that. The Dunlop American Elite is essentially the same tire. If you read the description is is identical, dual compound etc. The tread pattern is a bit different and of course the American Elite doesn't have those expensive HD bar&shield symbols on the side wall.

Several after market places, DK, Motorcycle superstore, Jake Wilson sell the other tires in that size and much better prices than the dealer D407/408. My next rear will be the Michelin Commander II, front also if it ever wears out. Got 12.7K from the stock rear and 18K and over 1/2 tread left on the front.

You may check with your local shops before, as a few of our local dealers will not mount a tire unless you buy it there. Another will charge enough for just mounting that makes you pay more in the long run.

HD dealers here in metro have lost there friken minds ontire prices and mounting........started buying my tires here http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/ and having INDY shops do M\D for 30 bucks sometimes less........then a friend bought a tire machine for his shop and since then he is busy as heck as everyone is fed up with HD prices......some you still have great dealers where you live but here not so much they are jacking prices beyond belief......

I just changed my rear, had a little over 20k on mine, probably could have gotten a couple more thousand, pick up a screw. Motorcycle Superstore had Michelin commander II for 170.99 free shipping.

As far as I know, the OEM tires are only available at dealers-online or local. I change my tires around 17,000 miles. They could go more but the tread is pretty low by then.
