Default Chaps?

Would just like to get some peoples opinions about chaps. I was looking at the Harley standard chaps and they want $175 for a pair and I found a pair at a local leather shop for $100. Are the HD ones really that much better or is it just another 'let's charge $75 more cause they have a Harley patch on them'?

Look at the leather thickness and how thry are made. That should be more important than who made them. IMHO

Don't know about the HD ones, but check out the chaps from Fox Creek leather. I have a couple of jackets from them and they're top quality at a good price. They also have great customer service. I don't have chaps, but if I ever go that route I'll give my business to Fox Creek.

I picked up a pair in Sturgis a couple of years ago for like 40 or 50 bucks. They work just fine.

The first chaps I purchased at the leather store were about a hundred dollars and the quality seemed as good as the HDs but when riding I started to noticed smudges on the sides of the fuel tank from the dye on the chaps that was really hard to clean. I picked up a set of HD units on clearance and had no more issue.

I got my chaps from Jammin leather, paid $75, and they work great, with good quality.

we have chaps from two different leather sources, we determine our purchases by looking at the quality of the leather and the thickness, depends on if you are looking for warmth and protection, you can get them lined for more warmth, but there are many choices besides harley that can get you the same or better quality product for much less

better chaps are going to be thicker (not split) cow hyde or buffalo. They should also be lined. You get what you pay for.

I had some less expensive chaps and they never fit quite right. Do yourself a BIG favor and get some from Fox Creek ,better price than HD,better quality, better fit, lifetime gaurntee and made in the USA . The leather is thick , supple , give them your measurements and you will have a great fitting pair,(they have 130 sizes and will do custom) . They are outstanding to work with .
