Big Blue Pearl Touch Up...

Big Blue Pearl Touch Up...
I posted something similar in a paint forum, but I wanted to see if anyone here had a similar experience or knowledge on the subject...
I have a 2012 Big Blue Pearl Street Glide. A rock kicked back... although the mark in the fairing is relatively small, I can see white.
I went to my local dealer and purchased the BBP touch up kit. I was a little confused because it came with two .5 ounce bottles. One was Vivid Black (39H002) and other was Big Blue Pearl (98601DJO). The parts guy was confused as well, as we expected the two bottles to be blue... The bottle of BBP appears clear and they described it in the dealership as a top coat.
I assumed this was an error on HD's part. My confusion comes in as I can't fathom how the black turns blue from a coat that appears clear. But from a previous post it seems the Merlot is the same way, with a base of vivid black.
Naturally I am hesitant to paint anything black on blue.
Thanks in advance for any and all insight.

I suspect you are correct. The touch up kits come with touch-up paint and clear coat. My Vivid Black kit came with Vivid Black paint and clear coat. My buddies Pearl Blue came with you guessed it Pear Blue Paint and clear coat. I'd go back to the dealer and trade the one they gave you for the proper one.

+1, If it looks black, sounds like you might have gotten a mistaken bottle or something.

well I was keeping my eye out for this issue.....I rode my last bike 80,000 miles and the only chip I eneded up with was one I did this new 2012 BPB sg had a rock chip in fender on ride home from dealer....then I got another the the following week then anothe on the tank a week later..............seems like this paint is more prone to chiping than any i ever had.....body guy friend says it is the clear coat on all the chips but one on the tank.......if its just in the clear you can buff it out if its to the paint you need to add paint....as for the the chip looking "white" he say thats a clear coat chip........so I ask is this the paint color or am I just having bad luck with this bike and chips?

Beginning with the 2005 OE colors, touch up paint kits have been created with a part number series of 98601. The same type of clam shell packaging will be used however a bottle of clear coat will now replace one of the bottles of color on one step colors. For any two step process, the kit will consist of a bottle of base coat and a bottle of top coat. You will no longer be able to purchase a single bottle of base coat or top coat due to the new kitting process. The part number for the base and or top coat will be identical leading you to a kit when either paint is needed.

Thank you for all this information!
I am definitely hoping it to be a chip in the clear coat rather than the paint itself. I will clean it up tomorrow or Wednesday and get to work touching it up. Will report back.
@fire: I heard as well that this paint chips easily, but of course I heard it after the fact. I love it though, so I doubt it would have influenced my decision. My wife already asked how much it would cost to replace the fairing in a few years if the chipping gets out of hand.
@Dawg: That's two I owe you... If you can tell me how HD plans to change the hammock style touring seat (currently listed as pending obsolete in their system), then I will really be impressed! To buy now or wait until later, that's the question.
