Who's using XIEDs instead of a tuner and why?

Any subject about products for a Motorcycle will bring out different opinion's, You have to decide what you want to do and what's best for you.

2011 EGUC - Ran catless head pipes since almost new with slight pinging on decel.
Installed Big Sucker and VIEDS about a month ago and now hear no pinging at all plus the seat of the pants dyno says performance is much improved.
I have no plans for further engine mods so VIEDs seemed to be a good choice for me. Plus; got them off the forum for $65 so if they didn't do what I needed I could still feed the family.

XEID's are a great product for the buck. All they really do is trick the ECM into giving it more fuel and for many people they are happy with that. I used them for 6 months because I had to have the exhaust and A/C on when I first bought the dyna new. I think they performed as advertised but I felt the bike could run a lot better. I finally broke down and bought a TTS tuner and had it dyno tuned by a very qualified tuner. The bike runs completely night and day different. Yes it has a lot more power, but just the cruisability of it is so much better.
So for the ones that say they have stage one and XEID's with no more engine plans and think the tuner thing is overkill.....all I can say is you are dead wrong. You will never know what your missing. I have no plans for cams or anything like that but the bike runs better then you people with XEID's could ever imagine.
Bottom line, Do all your engine mods and get a quality tuner and make sure the guy that is going to be dynoing knows what he is doing. It is the best thing you can do for your bike and your reflashed ECM will be there forever and you never have to worry about a piggyback tuner crapping out.

I've used them for years. First my night train, then my vrod muscle and now my street glide. All with great results!! For the longest time now we've been duped into all sorts of tuners, fuelpaks and stage 1 downloads by the steelers and others trying to profit using scare tactics. Unfortunately some people still drink the koolaid! Not me. My 2012 flhx popped and sputtered when I added the exhaust and cai. Now with the xeids it runs perfect and pulls 6th way stronger and smoother! The product works. Anyone that says different has their own agenda. The tuning industry is a billion dollar business can you imagine if everyone with just an exhaust and cai used just xeids!

I installed the adjustable ones last Friday. Played with the adjustment from 50 -75 %. 75% seemed to be the best for me. Took a 200 mile trip Saturday. Mileage stayed about the same (47 mpg with 2up). The motor-rear cylinder was obviously cooler. Pinging situation greatly improved, but not gone. If I did know to listen for it, probably would not notice it. Will try an octane booster just to tweek it out.
I have S & S duals, Vance & Hines slip ons, the Harley stage 1 download with air cleaner.
Very happy with the results.

I've had XIED's on three Harleys...a 2010 FLTRX, a 2011 FLHTK, and now a 2012 FLHRC. The first had a 103 Stage II kit, the second a 103 with Stage I, and the last a 103 Stage II. All had appropriate HD flashes to amend the several ECU tables. All ran lean in closed loop until I installed the mod. I noted that via spark plug color and cylinder deposits (I have a borescope).
They work very well in closed loop when the O2 sensors are working...up to about 40% throttle and 4K rpm. Very well being they ran a little richer, maybe a little cooler, and with no pinging on quality fuel. It takes some mileage (= various engine load configurations) to adjust the fueling to the mod's O2 sensor voltage alteration.
After installation I believe it helps to run in any engine load range that may initially seem rough to modify the fueling there more quickly.
I can't confirm the claim that they will enrichen open loop fueling, but they certainly don't seem to harm.
