Default touring riders how is your bike 2 up?

I've been looking at new Electra Glides and such for a while. I currently have a 2012 Super Glide Custom. I love the bike but when riding 2 up with my girlfriend and the factory socks on full stiff, we still occaisionally bottom out on dips and bumps. Tonight was a bad one...I thought i was gonna break something. Together with gear we are at 400 lbs. I was thinking maybe switch to a touring bike...but if i do and it bottoms out too...I'll feel like an azz....Soooooo..I will probly schedule a test ride with my local dealer...but wanted some feedback on rider here in the forums who are around the same weight rolling down the road...How does your stock bike handle the weight? is the ride good? how do you like the air shock suspension?

I know I can maybe change shocks on the Super Glide....but I am not opposed to going to a touring ride if it handles our weight better.

Thanks!

Electra Glides are great "road" motorcycles. Whether it's a Classic, Ultra Classic or Ultra Classic Limited, they all have the same suspension. Will they ever bottom out? Once in a while, but not often.

If it were me, I'd go to a dealer that rents and rent an Electra Glide for a day and really ride it like you plan to ride yours and see how you like it. If you choose just a test drive instead, make sure you find some bumpy roads to check out the suspension.

Good luck in your hunt.

Touring bikes are awesome 2 up. Just a bit more care needs exercised on stopping with the extra weight and realize it will seem like it has a little less power but not as bad as you would think. These bikes are made for 2 up. I can't believe the number of people on this site who refuse to ride anyone on their Touring bikes.

Ultra Limited or any electra glide, road glide should be awesome. Love my limited 2 up with luggage, the air shocks are adjustable for the load your carrying. Go see the dealer and ride a few. If you think you want to buy one tell the dealer that you want a rental for the weekend and if you end up buying a bike you want the rental fee to go towards your down payment. Good luck.

My 2003 Ultra rides great, and never bottoms out. but you better be paying attention with 1,000 lbs of bike, and 400 lbs of riders. Have to be a little more careful stopping, and slow turns. I would not recommend renting and riding 2up, right away, because you should get some time yourself on the EG, before riding 2up. I rode my bike 1,000 miles solo first, but I would at least try some slow speed maneuvers for about an hour, solo first.

I can vouch for that. They rock the riding 2 up world. Just have to get used to the way the handle around town. There is a learning curve.

If your only concern is suspension, aftermarket shocks on your Super Glide will give you a HUGE improvement over stock. But let me tell you, you'll be amazed at how much nicer the touring bikes are in many other ways as well. I spent decades riding sport bikes, Buells and Sportsters. I always viewed touring bikes as being big, heavy, underpowered affairs for old farts. The first time I took my Street Glide for a ride my perception changed 100%. I was floored at how comfy it is, how easily it handles and how torquey it is. My only regret is that I didn't get one years ago!

I had a 2002 super glide that would bottom out with me and the wife both on it. Switched to a 2001 Road King and we no longer bottom out.
