Default seating piston pin circlip

Is there any reason I cant take a flat washer the same OD size as the wrist pin and put it on a bolt with a nut on each side of the washer to hold it in place and tap the circlip into the groove? The bolt end would go into the pin and the washer would hammer the clip home.

Yes, it makes sense......just go easy and don't "hammer" it too hard.

I used a pair of needle-nose pliers to put the clips in. I pushed one side of the clip into the groove and held it inplace with my left thumb, then I took the pliers and forced the clip into the groove on the other side. Make sure it is seated very well and in place.............that's the last thing you want to have to re-do later on after the build is done.

Brad.... it's really quite simple.

See the "notch" in the piston (on the outter edge of the wrist pin hole) @ about 7:00 o'clock?

Squeeze the open end of the clip together to the best of your ability with your fingers and place the open end, down into the hole with the opening 180 degrees from the notch (above).

Place the tip if a small flat-blade screw driver or an awl in the notch, and then simply use is to snap the clip into place. It's far more difficult to describe in words than it is to do.....

Be sure you have the exposed crankcase area covered with a towel so nothign falls down in there!

Thanks. I think I'll play around with the old ones to see before I do it on the real ones.

Here's a horror picture for you.....The clip came out of my Ironheads wrist pin after 10k miles and6 yearson the build. The wrist pin did a nice job cutting a groove in the cylinder wall.....Just a little something to help you sleep better.
