Arrow Garmin GPS: Nuvi 550 or Zumo 220?

I bought a Zumo 450 in '09 and it has now gone south, a victim of a bad screen digitizer. Considering that I only use this occasionally from March to Thanksgiving, a total of 9 months a season (27 mo. of occassional use to date), the return on this unit was not very good. It is also a discontinued unit and not replaceable.

I am looking for hands on input and feedback from riders who have used either the Nuvi 550 or Zumo 220.

Why not just replace the digitizer, you can buy them for around $25. Just a thought, because if the 450 was one that I liked and had everything already set up for it's use, then I, myself would just replace the digitizer.

If you are interested HERE is one.

Since I don't own a 550 or 220 I can't comment on them, but good luck on your decision.

I tried a replacement digitizer. The screen display/resolution was poor.

I have the 550 it's waterproof and has a descent built in battery, it does not have fancy features like bluetooth, but it's held up well to all kinds of weather and have had it on the bike for more than 30k miles. I use the battery often take taking in a car I don't have to bother with power the battery will last for hours or if the weather is so bad I can disconnect the power source making sure it's waterproof. This shows the 500 but the 550 is identical.

The Garmin Zumo 550 seems to be the best motorcycle gps available.

I also had a Zumo 450, and the touch screen went out. Sent it back to Garmin for repair and they sent me a Zumo 550 as a replacement because they didn't have any 450's. Garmin ROCKS. Total cost 175.00 bux. It was also out of warranty.

I've only had my Nuvi 550 a short period, but so far I love it. I've had it out on the sunniest days possible, no problem seeing it, either. But I don't wear polarized sunglasses, you might have a different experience if you do, but I'd guess that would be true of all GPS screens
