Schaeffer's Harley Davidson in Orwigsburg Pa does an excellent job washing my bike after any service. A few weeks ago I took my bike in because the heated grips stoped working. They tested the grips and had no power. They took the fairing cap off, and found the harness to the grips disconnected because of improper routing at the factory. Grips were working correctly in 15 minutes, and they asked if I wanted it put through the wash rack. The bike was filthy!!! Took about 45 minutes and the bike looked like when I bought it. Looked it over really good, and I dont think they missed anything.

My last time in for pipes at DeKalb HD they did a nice job cleaning the bike. I am pretty particular about the cleanliness. If any wash was not up to par I would just re-wash. The bike is there to be ridden is how I figure it.

If I took it in for service, they would be instructed not to wash it. When I had my free (and only) first service, I took my saddlebags and windshield off. Rode a naked bike to the shop. I have seen too many saddlebag lid and tank scratches come out of the service on friends bikes. At one shop they even waxed over it so he did not find it until he got home.

In my area when a good mechanic leaves a shop for a better position, I have seen former service writers get promoted to mechanic status. While they may know their way around a bike, they are not trained mechanics and often make 'shortcut' mistakes, handle tools poorly and don't have the work rhythm and awareness of an experienced mechanic.

No poll category for "would not let them."

My dealer asks me if I want it washed. If I say yes, they wash it no charge (and do a pretty good job).

last time my dealer did some work they washed it and it was filthy afterwards, got home and had to rewash it, it looked like it was washed in well water.
When they had it 2 weeks ago for some warranty work I said please don't wash it again, and they said they'd 'had some problems in that department'. I'm obsessive about my bike being cleaned and waxed so I'd prefer them not to wash it.
