Great bike and a bullet proof motor.

I still toy with same thought.

I learned to ride on my '98 Sportster Sport. Never sold it after I bought my Limited.

I say get it.

Had a couple of sportys, sweet bikes for sure, but of them all I miss my 89 FXLR the most..that was one of the best Harley's made, IMO....would love to have another for a fun bike....

I would like to suggest a Roadster or 1200R instead. The 1200C is a beautiful looking bike but with it's lowered suspension it can beat the crap out of you. I had an '05, and loved it until I hit a bump, damn. My '97 1200S with the upgraded suspension and solid mount motor was a much better bike to ride. Actually rode that one from Mass to Jax Fl in a day. (1100 miles)

Sportster is a fun bike and would fit the "Cafe" role well. I had one myself for a while. If you are a tall person you might feel cramped unless you do forward controls, which you might want to day anyway. I'd love to have one as a 2nd bike to my RK!

Saw this on another site, but a well built Sporty that would be one fun ride.

96 tq/111 hp

2002 XL883R
Stock bottom end
883 cylinders bored for Wiseco 1200 Buell 10 deg pistons
883 heads with bigger valves, Wood springs, 10 deg chamber
ported and flowed and dual plugged
W9BS cams and Andrews pushrods
Jims Lifters
45 Mikuni with modified stock air cleaner
DTT ignition and dual Dyna green coils
883R 2-1 exhaust with modified baffle
Street ridden for 8 years and my only bike for the first 4 years. I tried to drag race it once and broke a belt so did not do that again. It will go through back tires fairly quickly. Other than the extra plug wires it looks pretty stock.
