Default "Dad, these bumps are piston me off!!" Says my 7 year old

That was for sure, the quote of the long weekend ride. One of his, "I am getting grown up and can say cool stuff moments". My son the other day mentioned he doesn't get to see his cousins in Michigan very often. We live in west central WI and I had a 3 day weekend the weekend before Memorial day too so I said lets go to Milwaukee after school Thursday afternoon, stay in a hotel with a pool, ride the Lake Express car ferry to Muskegon Mi on Friday (Bikes ride free in May) and come home the opposite of that Sunday morning. Called a buddy and he and his 12 year old rode with us. If you have something bad to say about my 7 year old riding on my motorcycle go complain someplace else. This thread is about 2 riding buddies having a great, long weekend with thier sons on the bikes. We are all about safety and riding the backroads and not taking any unnecessary risks when the boys are with us. His quote came as we were entering one of the small towns with some frost heaves in the pavement just west of Milwaukee area. Had no idea it is "pissing me off" and now understands that is not words that a 7 year old is allowed to speak, and the proper term for future reference. My son now has not stopped talking about the morocycle ride, the car ferry ride, the time spent with family and friends, or the swimming pool that is open till 11 PM at the LaQuinta in New Berlin. From there the ride to the boat is very easy and almost no traffic at 4:45 AM, and yes that is interstate type of road riden with utmost safety. I am a very proud dad and will not raise my child in the glass bubble that many are brought up in. The guy who did 17 states and 6000+ miles (TRacer) with his son last year is my hero, and I hope to do something like that when my son gets a little older. there is another thread here someplace that talks about the first ride you can remember with your dad or uncle or whoever it was, and I read and wrote in that thread and it is almost a tear jerker remembering some of those times on that old Honda with my dad in the fields. If you get a chance, please do it safely, but enjoy time with your family and try not to stay too busy to enjoy your childrens childhood WITH them. I am attaching one pic that is in the Wi Dells at the restaurant we had lunch at on the way home Sunday, and yes that is one of the amphibious "Ducks" in the background, as well as a pretty sweet vet. My son actually gets to start the bike if, and only if he is all geared up before me, doesn't happen often. Hope you enjoyed the read
EDIT:Friday and Saturday we pretty much hung around at my brothers place and enjoyed family and friends with a few cook outs and almost no riding.
Kris

That sounds like a great time for father and son. Some simple safety procedures and I don't see why anyone would question you.
A ride he will remeber for a long time. (you will too!!)

Good for you.

I agree. They aren't old enough to realize the dangers and make proper choices. All it takes is one mistake and how would the parent feel?

JEEEEEEZZZUS! STFU already, It's none of YOUR business.
Good for you, taking a boy eager to participate is a fantastic thing.
My son (now 12) began riding with me at an early age. First on the old Yamaha 225DX TriMotor around the property and then on the BMW K 75. I ride him to school now on the Ultra and the girls really dig it (so does he).
So for those detractors and safety **** types...STFU!

Cheers!

Damn, judging from a couple of the comments, now we need to keep our children inside and away from all harm until they are 18 years old and able to legally make their own decisions before we let them ride crawler, tricycle, bicycle, minibike, dirtbike, ect. In fact I guess they cannot go near the water, swing, jump, run, play sports or anything else that endangers them until they can make a rational decision of they own "adult" free will.

Blackpearl, you are right, enjoy that special time between a father and son. Hell I had my son sitting in front of me at age 3 for short neighborhood ride cause he wanted to. He sat there, helmet on, big ole grin and loved it, eventually getting his own small scooter to ride around the house, now he's 27 and can't wait to get back from Afghanistan and make a long ride with me... Life is short, don't crawl under a rock, get out there and enjoy it with your kids....
