I am not an expert by any stretch but maybe you're son is better off with a reman or a new engine. It will only take one weak link in the rebuild of a pretty severely damaged engine for it to all happen again... (Though knock on wood it doesn't!)

When you stop for gas have you ever walked around behind that Goldwing and looked at the rear end. Maybe you've said to yourself something like, "Holy crap, that's like looking at a dreadfully obese teenage girl eating a double dip ice cream cone." Then, when you get back on the bike you're haunted by that image and hope nobody you know sees you.

It was a total loss. Got sent back to the factory for reman. He took the opportunity to upgrade and it came back as a 103" though.

Esp?
The ESP paid for itself three times over on both bikes... it's not for everyone, but it worked for me.
My apologies for the slight hijack, but every time I hear of an incident like this it reminds me of a couple I've been through.
Good Luck; and sorry to hear about your untimely misfortune.
