Been running open element filters for years on my bikes in all kinds of weather and have never had a problem with water intake.........

I have a rain sock in the tour pack, but have been through some frog stranglers and not had an issue without it. The Ultra may deflect more rain away from intake, can't say for sure.

The SE Heavy Breather comes with a rain sock. I carry it when rain is a possibility.

I have had issues a number of times with my SE Ventilator in heavy rain. Sputtering, warning lights etc. I do carry a rain sock now.
