Tourpack off the ultra.. that was easy!
Finally decided to take my tourpack off my 08 ultra to see what I thought.. wow... I honestly expected a harder time. Unplug everything, tuck under seat, and a few bolts off the rear, and bam.. done. Someone on here said it took them 30 minutes and usually I hear times and think.. yeah.. something is gonna screw me up or whatever... nope.. really was 30 minutes almost on the head!
I like the look, and not having that weight up there does make a difference in handling.. not much, but noticeable.
Not sure how it is on the 09 and newer, but this was fine. Used an old license plate backing, drilled some holes to match that rear bar and mounted up the plate. I don't like it, but it was what I had... I'll probably get the mount that drops it below the taillight. That will be one less thing to worry about when putting on and removing the pack.
If its as easy on the 09 and newer and you were wondering.. give it a shot.. its not hard.

I have the detachable King for my RK and love the option. No wires to fool with so literally a 2 minute install to take it on or off. Set it on a shelf and throw a sheet over it and it's ready for the next time I need it. I use it for grocery shopping and on road trips of course, otherwise it's off most of the time. But wow is it a wonderful thing when I need it.

But it only takes 2 minutes if I stand back & look at it for a minute.

Took mine off this winter and have no plans on putting it back. My wife really did not care for the set-up, no air movement on her lower back when it was hot and could not move her arms in other positions with arm rests so her arms were falling asleep. Took it off and she is much happier. Also I do not know how a couple could fit enough stuff in that little box for a week long trip. We are doing the BRP and Tail of the Dragon the end of June and there is no way we could fit enough clothes etc.. in that trunk. We have the Road Ready Luggage Luggage that goes over the sissy bar and that is perfect for traveling. Before you say it I carry a camera and all the extra lenses and stuff as I am a photographer (on the side) and I do not want one of the chrome luggage racks mounted to my TP...
Some day I might put the pack back on but not today or even tomorrow...

+!, Probably a minute and change! HaHa! But, maybe it's really big garage and takes a minute to walk across it with the tour pak, plus you gotta fold the sheet when you take it off. Just ribbin' ya, Arizona, we know what you meant, it is a piece of cake .....

I understand why you guys that keep it on, because man that large pack held a lot of stuff, and it is so easy to go in and out of. But I also understand now what guys say about the lighter feeling. I liked it on and I like it off too. Not sure if I will stay like this but its nice to know its not real difficult to do.
I thought about the quick detach, but of all the things the on the 08 and earlier with that rear bar, the quick detach kit for em is my least favorite. I wish they coulda found a cleaner way to do it then those two big hoops hanging out there. That was a nice change on those 09 and newers. But, I don't plan on popping it on and off that much. If its off, I will keep it off for a while and if its on, then it will stay on a while. I might keep it on the in the winter weather cuz with the bigger shield and lowers back on, the trunk fits right in, plus its needed to hold more clothes..HA The summer months when not touring can be the light look.

Quick disconnect was going to be the first thing I did till I saw the price. Holy crap! Every time I think of the price I think of something else I could do to the bike instead. Plus I've gotten addicted to the space. Can fit a large Dominos pizza in that Tour Pak!
Good to know it is easy though. I thought the wires would be more difficult than that.
