If I was buying a new Harley, that would be part of my negotiations for the dealer to pick it up. Far as I am concerned if Harley Davidson cannot make a bike they can trust with out checking it at 1000 mile then it should be free. I am sure the dealer is going to whine and cry boo ho and say no since I have tried three time to buy bikes from my local dealer and the last time I offered book and the jerk still wanted $4000 over. Of course he said he was going to give me $4000 in chrome parts?

I never said it was a secret checklist. I said I don't trust someone that doesn't use it. And I like to have a copy of it at least to show each item was taken care of.

In my riding history I've owned many bikes, including 7 Harleys. I've never had the dealer service any of them. Buy a manual, nuff said.

As long as you change the fluids religiously, you shouldn't have any issues on a new bike during the 2 year warranty period. Just my opinion.

This is my philosophy as well. I changed all three my fluids today, took 40 mins or so. I do however like to have my bike checked out once a year by someone who is a professional. I did last year and he caught a few things that I missed, nothing major, just stuff that could have gotten costly down the road.

as a rule I would say no,, let the indy do it but since this is a new to you bike,, let the stealer go over real good,, your life may depend on it

I bought my Ultra Classic from Fletcher's Harley in Clearwater, Fl.

They take care of the 1,000 mile service with the purchase of a new bike. And, NO, I didn't pay more for the bike. In fact I just about stole it from them and got highway pegs thrown in. Tommy will deal with you.

I'm a little past due on my 5000 mile checkup... My local dealer will do it for $129.00 without the fluid change.

I do that myself; with redline...

Is a HD mechanic better or more qualified then a mom and pop shop mechanic? The place is called Big Daddy Cycles in Hayes, Va. Never heard bad things or good about them? They told me they will do the same work as the HD dealer and inspect/adjust everything.
Thoughts?
I say buy a manual, and request a check list from the dealer, and do it yourself, between you and your buddy's, you can do it.

Do it yourself. You will save some cash and get to know your bike better.
