Default Check those tires...

I've had this Street Glide a mere 2 months and put on just under 2000 miles. I had it up on the jack to clean it up for this bike show/event last weekend. As I'm wiping down the rear wheel I see this sticking out of the rear tire...

Maybe I got lucky and it didn't go through...

Nope.

It was a Friday afternoon and the only place I could find a tire was the dealer... $$$

So up on the trailer it went. And $363.00 later ($275 just for the tire) I'm the proud owner of a new rear tire... Let my pain serve as a lesson to you. That screw made a huge hole. Had it come out going 70 mph I would have had a bad day...

I know, I need to buy a chock.

I feel your pain. I had a bolt get my the rear tire on my 07 FLSTF with less than 2K on it, yup it cost me about what you paid.
At the time, I was thinking that the tire warranty might have been a good thing to purchase except now, I can't remember if it covered road hazard stuff.

I am glad that I caught that too, as I would hate to have gone down because of it.

Man, that sucks. It's expensive enough to have to replace them when they're worn, but after only 2K miles is ludicrous. With your luck maybe you should purchase some type of tire warrenty. Just a thought.

I would have put a plug in it and saved $362.00.

Had it gone through one of the lugs I probably would have also. But there isn't as much tire for the plug to hold onto in between. I did keep the old tire and will be putting a patch/plug in there...

You could have plugged it from the inside and saved a bunch. But I guess peace of mind has no price.

+ 1 I'll bet one of the guy's at that Dealer is still smiling. He'll plug that tire and run it.

And this, gentlemen, is why I purchased the extended warranty with the wheel and tire coverage.

Glad it didn't turn into a very bad experience for you.

Not trying to ruin your day further your not out of the woods just yet.
New tires are sticky, they pick up all kinds oh stuff so my advice is to check them after rack ride for about the first 500 miles. Don't ask how I know, when I extended my warranty the tire policy was also picked up to cover for these sort of things.
