I think the engineers at H-D must have spent many sleepless nights coming up with such a p/p design on these valve stems!
What was wrong with the older designs?

I just make sure it is at 6 o'clock when I go to pick a new bike up at the dealer... that way it is ALMOST ALWAYS at the bottom whenever I stop

Is somebody bored out of their skull?
(I am, btw. On call for work, so no fun today!
) What a question! Of course mine is always positioned exactly where I need it. NOT!!!!

And why couldn't they have it come out at an angle instead of straight up? what a PIMA! even with a flexible hose air guage the rotor is still in the way of my hand getting close enough to push the guage squarely on the valve.

Just checked yesterday. Rolled it back, put the jiffy stand down, looked underneath, rolled it back etc. fifth time was the charm.

I find it easier to just pull off the saddlebag..
I also put on some angled valve stems..much easier to check your air pressure.
