Thanks for the write up. Good info. I just ordered a couple of things from the 3br link. If you do get into situations where you have glare, I've been using one of these for 4 or 5 years. The velcro is starting to wear out but it has been very good at keeping the glare off the screen.

I bought the Nuvi 550 and got it last night, 6-13-12. I set it up and used it today. I HATE it. It comes with a removable plastic overlay on the screen for a visual effect. It has a light tan background and multiple colors depicting streets and rivers and of course your route. Very nice graphic display. In actuality my display screen is nothing like the removable overlay. My screen is entirely green and the roads and planned routes are barely visible. It has absolutely NO contrast. Right now I am a very unhappy camper. Has anyone else who has this model experienced the poor screen display? I miss my Zumo 450.

OK, sports fans.

I wanted a semi-permanent setup, I think the result is pretty good (see last pic), not completely ideal but it doesnt look terrible with the GPS off the bike.

Starting in a few weeks I'll be going on a lot of long rides (some business, some pleasure), so I wanted a GPS setup that didnt look hideous.

I ordered some cables from http://www.3brpowersports.com/

Specifically the waterproof cable that connects to your accessory plug under the seat, part number 150-0052-01, $39.95

And the 9" cable that connects to the GPS part number 202-0040-09, $19.95

First, I bought a GPS mount that works with the cradle supplied by Garmin, here's the mount on my bike, first part of the setup with just the handle bar mount on, sorry that it's blurry:
Thanks for sharing I bought the cable today should be here tomorrow and will have it installed prior to leaving on Saturday.

Reply to an old post but I just noticed this - if you're still reading these, this isnt an issue with the 550, you've somehow got it displaying in the wrong mode. I dont have this problem, but I have seen this display, I think it toggles to this if you touch the main part of the screen but I could be wrong.

Actually it is an issue with the Nuvi 550. It does have 3 viewing modes and 2 of the 3 have a poor resolution screen with a green background and barely visible roads and routes. The one screen that was best for viewing was the 3D screen mode and that one I did not like. My screen display of choice is the "track up" mode and it was barely visible with the green background. I am comparing the screen displays to my Zumo 450 that had just gone south on me. The screen displays were confirmed by Garmin after a lengthy tech call to them.
