gass gauge help
I have a 98 Roadking. My gass gauge seems to be off. The light will come on and gauge says empty, but when i fill it will only hold 3 gallons. I have been told the light shouldnt come on untill you are ddown to a gallon. Just wondering if they are tied together or do you think i need a new gauge. can it be calabrated. havnt tried to keep going and see how far it will go, thought about carrying a gallon with me. Thanks for any help. should have looked at posts first there is one on gauges think i will buy a gas can and go by the mileage.

most riders use the trip meter to keep track of mileage.
you could use you low fuel lght to remind that it is time to think abut getting fuel.
the fuel gauge is a float on an arm, kinda like a toilet- 'recalibration" is done by bending the arm "up" would give you a more accurate reading.
But it is messy and frustrating and you have to be careful not to tangle or rupture the fuel lines
As you ride keep track of your typical MPG- I get about 43 on my current bike.

If you can stand it, do it like mk suggests. My fuel guage did the same thing two years in. I fooled around with taking the sending unit out of the tank only to discover it was the guage itself. They are both a pain in the butt to remove/replace for the self motivated. But it's all for nexperience.
